Maple Oatmeal Scones

These scones are a family go to recipe for weekend mornings or when we have company. They are so easy to make too!

Ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour
¾ cup old-fashioned rolled oats
1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
¼ teaspoon salt
1 egg
¼ cup maple syrup
¼ cup heavy cream
½ cup (1 stick) very cold unsalted butter, cut in small pieces
¼ cup oats to sprinkle on scones

Glaze:
1 cup powdered sugar
3 tablespoons maple syrup

Preheat oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. In a large bowl stir together the flour, oats, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Whisk the egg, maple syrup and cream and set aside. Add the butter to the flour mixture and blend in the butter until it is coarse meal,, using your fingers or a pastry blender. Stir the cream mixture until dough is moist and comes together into a ball.

Place the dough on a lightly floured surface and press into a circle. Sprinkle with oats. Cut the circle into six triangles and transfer to the baking sheet, 1 inch apart. Bake for about 15 minutes or until golden.

Whisk the powdered sugar and maple syrup until smooth and of drizzling consistency. Add a few drops of water, if needed. Spoon over the scones. Makes 6.
