What is the Difference Between Quartz and Granite Countertops?

Quartz and Granite countertops are the most popular on the market today. They are some of the best materials to make your kitchen shine, but which one is better? That question is almost impossible to answer and always comes down to what you are looking for in a countertop. Both quartz and granite have some unique differences that make them stand out more for each customer. Here are a couple of the most important differences.

Price – Price is one of the first things customers think of when trying to decide which countertop to get. Relatively speaking, quartz and granite countertops are very similar in price. Quartz is around $70-$100 a square foot. Granite also can be in that price range or lower, but high-end granite can go for $150 a square foot.

Durability – Both of these countertop options are one of the most durable on the market. They are both scratch, chip, and stain-resistant. The only thing that makes quartz pull ahead in this category is the fact that Granite is a natural stone. This means that it could have imperfections that make it more prone to chipping and it needs to be sealed properly to make sure it doesn’t stain. If you take good care of your granite countertop, however, you have nothing to worry about!

Customization – Quartz can be made into any color hue you can imagine. Pigments are added to get the color just right for whatever you are searching for. Granite is a natural stone so it can’t be customized as much. It is mostly earthy tones or vivid blues, greens, or reds. Granite is the perfect countertop if you are looking for a natural look but if you want a color outside of granite’s spectrum, it has to be quartz!

Both of these countertops are a great choice. It all depends on what you and your family are looking for so you get the perfect countertop for you!
