Behind the Transformation Contest Winning Kitchen

Lauren Van Buren, husband and two sons, ages 1 and 2 won an iPad during our first Kitchen and Bath Transformation Contest!

Lauren’s kitchen looked dated with oak cabinets and a peninsula that enclosed the space and laminate countertops.  Lauren and her husband wanted a makeover that would give the room a fresh contemporary look.

Lauren is a nurse with a really good sense of design, so she got her inspiration from Pinterest and Instagram and she re-designed the whole kitchen by removing some cabinets and repositioning them for a center island. She added additional paneling and details and then painted them all gray.. For the countertops, they selected  white Silestone Blanco Maple quartz and finished the walls with white subway tile backsplash with a mosaic accent behind the range.

They used an undermount white cast iron single bowl Kohler Riverby sink that almost blends with the countertop color. A Kohler Simplice faucet in matte black and black cabinet pulls added a cool contrasting effect. Stainless steel appliances, including a modern vent hood finished off the look. Beautiful new flooring replaced the vinyl tile and the carpet in the family room. The room is full of neat details and there’s even a cute little kitchen for the kids that has a ‘marble’ top and that will have subway tile soon too!

The Van Burens next project is to remodel their bathroom and continue to add design touches throughout their home.

They discovered our showroom back in 2016 when they were putting together their design and, after the Van Buren’s kitchen, we had the opportunity to do Lauren’s parents kitchen and baths as well!
